In the last one year, NSS students from 2 colleges of Coimbatore(Govt.Arts
College and C.S.I.Bishop appasamy college) camped in Vavipalayam and did various
social works. To continue our relationship with the college management and to
be in touch with the students, our members suggested to conduct a
cultural competition for the students of these 2 colleges.
Regarding this, we went to the colleges. In Govt.Arts College we met the
N.S.S Coordinator and in Bishop appasamy college we met the principal,secretary
and N.S.S.Coordinator. Asked permission to conduct the cultural program. Both
of them happily agreed for the program. A circular was sent to all the department in both the colleges.
On 19-09-03 we've conducted competition for the following events.
1. Oratory
2. Poem reading
3. Essay writing
Prizes and certificates were distributed on the same day in a simple function in Govt.Arts College auditorium. Nearly 250 students attended the function.
Dr.Padmanaban, Director of Human resource development, Bharathiyar university was selected for the best social worker award. Unfortunately he was not able to attend the program to receive the award. He was called to Bangalore for an urgent meeting. The award will be given to him in another function.
This is our first program in this nature. Hence we've conducted the program for 2 colleges alone. We'll try to host one/two more programs like this. After that we can do a big event as Inter
college meet with the theme like "Role of youths in the Expedition towards a
Developed India..."
